Abject Sunflower
Downtrodden face down
The sun has gone away
And so with it my spirit
Until another day
I look upon the ground
My gaze so blurred and shallow
So weak and unobtrusive
My petals sickly sallow
Wilting still, seeds all pecked out
Useful only as fodder
The flower once so vibrant, bright
Each day is looking odder
I’m fading now, as petals fall
Unto the earth I go
Until harsh seasons have passed by
And then my seeds will sow
When frozen ground has all thawed out
Germination can return
Awoken from my restful state
Time out has now adjourned
I follow sun, the warmth and glow
My energy restored
Emitting rays of all that’s good
Is what I work towards
From shadows deep and dark and sad
The loneliness is cast
Drawing from experience
And all that’s from the past
I’ll remember seasons come and go
With each I must adjust
I know that I will be OK
On this I put my trust
THE END
